Día de Los Muertos,
Going Beyond Mexico's Borders

In this website, I will be exploring Día de Los Muertos and how its influence pushes past the borders of Mexico. To better understand Dia de Los Muertos influence I start by explaining what Dia de Los Muertos means to Mexicans. This is accomplished by looking 3,000 years into the past at its origin along with historical religious context associated stemming from the Aztecs along with All Saints Day and Souls Day. To better understand its importance, the website will then focus on the beliefs, symbols, and traditions performed during Día de Los Muertos, along with how it has influence north of its border in the United States. One example is Halloween as shares many symbols with Día de Los Muertos and has caused confusion between the two. This has left the citizens of Mexico feeling that they are losing their identity in a constantly more homogenizing culture.
